I just wanted to stop and wish all of our Meadowview families a wonderful break! I hope everyone has a chance to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. I will be catching up on some posting of classroom information during break, so do check on the DEB, Math, and resource pages!

Upcoming Conferences

Hello! Parent - Teacher Conferences will be held Monday, November 25 and Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Students who participate in Advanced 6th Grade Math and 5/6 DEB have been requested to set up an individual conference with me, and will receive times this week. I am going to attempt to stop by other DEB students' classroom teacher conferences to give a quick update. Parents can also feel free to stop by my room (Rm. 17) if they would like to speak with me individually. If I am available, I am happy to meet without an appointment.

Getting into the Swing of Things!

Well, it's been a week and a half of classes, and we are all getting used to the schedule and working together as a group. Students in DEB (Differentiated Engagement Block) classes have begun their first units of study.

In 3/4 Grade, we are studying Questions. In this unit, we will focus on three essential questions:
How have questions played an important role in the development of society? How do questions inspire technological advances? How can questions be dangerous? By exploring different facets of these questions, students will come to understand that people are curious, curiosity causes people to ask questions and seek answers to those questions, questions drive the evolution of society, and questioning can be controversial.

In 5/6 Grade, we are studying the concept of Ages, exploring the essential questions: What is age? What does coming of age mean? How does age effect one's life? We will look at how age can be used to discriminate and infringe on civil rights, that coming of age is celebrated in many cultures, and that technology plays an important role throughout the ages.

These units will require a lot of discussion, higher level thinking about the focus concepts, and eventually, we will be working on researching how both Questions and Ages have had an effect on society over time.

Gifted Instruction Begins September 23, 2013!

Hello Meadowview Families! I am excited to announce that we will begin Gifted Classes on Monday, September 23, 2013. I will see 3rd/4th grade gifted from 8:25 - 9:15 AM, during the 3/4 Differentiated Engagement Block, Advanced 6th Grade Math from 10:05 - 11:25 AM, and 5th/6th grade gifted from 2:05 - 2:55 PM, during 5th/6th DEB.

I will update this blog regularly to share information on our classroom activities and events, post digital copies of classroom newsletters, and share resources for families. Right now, this page is under construction, so check next week for more details on our classes!
